DIY Wire End Table

IMG_5526

A few months ago, I wanted a new end table but didn’t want to pay major buck$ for one. I loved the look of this table made by the UK company, Dare Studio, but at £479 and up, I was not about to buy one. SO I made one for about $40!

Materials:

  • Wire hamper. I bought this one at Target. It’s listed as $24 but it was 10% off on Cartwheel plus an extra 5% with my RedCard so I got it for about $20.
  • Wood slab (12″ x 12″ would be best). I desperately wanted a square wooden block but had a tough time finding one at the hardware store, so I ended up buying this at Joann Fabrics for about $8 thanks to a 30% off coup (get their App, they have great coupons! They also email you weekly coupons if you sign up for emails).
  • Four two-hole straight brackets. $2.47 each at Home Depot here.
  • Eight ½ inch wood screws, like these. $0.33 each.
  • Wood stain. I had this stain left over from my popsicle stick wall art project.
  • Foam brush.
  • Paper towels.
  • Electric drill (or screwdriver).

Steps:

  1. Stain the wood slab. Apply a thin coat, let dry, then rub excess stain off with the paper towel.

  2. Once the stain is completely dry, lay the slab right-side down on the floor.
  3. Remove the cloth from the hamper and flip the hamper upside down so that the narrow base is on top of the slab.
  4. Place one of the brackets on top of one piece of the wire, as shown below. Screw one screw into the first hole, not tightening it all the way.

  5. Place and screw another screw in the opposite hole, making sure the bracket straddles the wire.
  6. Repeat steps 4 & 5 until all four wire spokes are secure.
  7. Go back to each screw and tighten it.
  8. Flip the table over and enjoy!
